For this we are looking for 10 students to be on the admissions jury.

We will require your presence for 1 whole day (9-18h), and we will be sending you the students’ application dossier in advance of the interviews so that you are informed about the work.

Work.Master Magazine  Open Call:

A few of us Work Master’s students are launching a magazine and we need your participation. The idea is simple. This 100% student-led magazine is our space, a space where can show our work, where we can voice our opinions, and where we can just have fun and mess around.

The work contained within can be works in progress, finished works, photography, text pieces, and any other format that can fit into the paper format. We are also thinking of creating an online space on which we could upload multimedia work. We would also love for the magazine to have other collaborative rubrics, such as a “letters to the editor” or a message board, an interview rubric, etc.

This magazine is meant to be editorially independent from the school and from the heads of the Masters. It can be the forum in which we can discuss, comment, joke and criticize what happens inside and outside the school. It can be a channel of communication to the faculty and the administration.

Last but not least, this is meant to be fun. Lets’s keep it experimental.

Want to participate? Have an idea? Don’t have an idea but want to participate anyways?
Sign up by sending us an e-mail to workmastermagazine@gmail.com with your name and any ideas or content you already have. Once we have your information, we will send you a e-mail explaining what to do next.
The printed version will be published in late May. Please contact us as soon as you can so that we can get started.

Next editorial meeting will take place onThursday, 4th of March at 5 PM on Zoom or in person if COVID permits. info to comes on WM calendar.)
Anyone who wishes to join the editorial team is welcome. We will use this occasion to think of rubrics, names for the magazine, the general organization and anything else that comes up.

We are super excited to get this started and we can’t wait to collaborate with you all.
Stay safe.

Love,

The Master’s Magazine team

* NEw ! NEW ! NEw ! GROUP MEETINGS <3

We are proposing to meet every other Wednesday afternoon from 2 to 6 (March 3, 17 and 31, to start with) to discuss your work, and many other matters related to your practice, in a relaxed way, as a group. We feel that there are not that many moments right now to just sit and talk about work, art, life and we would like to invite you to participate, either by just being a spectator or by proposing to discuss a piece you are working on right now, or a matter that you feel needs to be discussed. These discussions will take place in your studio at BH or at a place inside the school you feel comfortable to be showing things in.

We is a small group composed of Marlie, Lili, Jonas, Lou, Dorine, Laure and workmaster teachers who will want to join. Of course we are not going to be all present for each session : it will be a changing and flowing group structure, according to who is present and who has time to join these moments. If we are too many, we might split in two or three groups, so that it remains safe and not intimidating for anyone.

These are not critical sessions, neither studio visits or rendez-vous : consider it an experiment, for the time being, and then we may give these afternoons a name – or not. The idea is to set moments that are a bit more flexible than what the current workmaster structure allows for and to remain open to whatever might happen during those sessions. But keep in mind that it would be nice if you could attend the full session, and work and exchange together, as a group.
Whoever is interested in participating can drop us an email (you can write either to Lili, Marlie, Lou, Jonas, Dorine ou Laure!) You can of course also just turn up, but it would be nice to figure out who will attend and not.

This is more especially dedicated to students who are not working on their thesis right now, but if you are working the thesis and want to relax or discuss it, please join !

Nouveau ! Nouveau ! Nouveau !

-* info new Labzone Olga Rozenblum :

– A message for the students of the Work.Master from Jill Gasparina for the art historian Thomas Golsenne who thought this request could interest some students of the WM, a questionnaire about witches:

Bonjour,
D’avance merci.

Work.Master Team Changes

We want to use the opportunity of this Weekly News to tell you all about some changes in in the Work.Master team – You may have already heard that the previous semester was Laurent Schmid’s last one as Coordinator of the Work.Master, which is of course a major change for the Work.Master! Laurent is moving on to fully pursue his own artistic practice and research again. After many years of the Work.Master, and a programme/project very much initially set up by him, he will be greatly missed!

Until we define a new team for the coordination of the Work.Master – this should happen by September 2021 – we will be joined by Laure Marville in the role of Scientific Assistant, i.e. an administrative role in a management position, who will be working with Marlie to coordinate the programme. Laure is a former Work.Master student and after this has worked as a part of the Work.Master team already as an assistant, so she is already quite familiar with the structure – she will surely pick up on things very fast.

Of course Jonas, Lou and Dorine, the Work.Master assistants are also still very much a part of the whole team, and one of them per day will be physically present in the Work.Master Office, and Carole is still there for all administrative issues and present every Wednesday. This current set-up of the Work.Master team will last until we have redefined the coordination structure of the programme, which should be in place by September 2021.

As some of you may know already as this has been discussed in the recent student meetings, Lili and Marlie are working on redefining the Work.Master pedagogical project and structure; there is a lot of thinking and working on the future of the Work.Master going on, and we will be keeping you and all the tutors informed on what we are planning and discuss all of this with you when we can.

!! INFOS JURYS !!

As you know, the juries are coming very soon. Most of them will take place in person at BH, respecting the distance measures, wearing masks and a maximum of 5 people per room. Meaning that we cannot have any students present as an audience for the jury presentations but the juries can be followed by all students on Skype. Here is the link to follow all presentations:

Click here to join the meeting (no Skype account needed):

Jury Workmaster Year 1:  https://join.skype.com/olPpuqcinj8i
(starts Monday January 18th from 9:30 onwards)

Jury Workmaster Year 2: https://join.skype.com/ndNyb31gD7Zr
(starts Monday January 18th from 9:30 onwards)

Due to an accident, Marlie is not able to travel physically to Geneva, so she will be present for some of your juries by videoconference (mostly WM2).

As we experienced last year, it is possible that other jury members may end up being present only via videoconference due to an unexpected quarantine or any other unforeseen event, so it is important that you are aware that a tech set up (2 laptops and a webcam) will be present in the space during your jury
we will take care of it and move it around, you don’t need to be occupied with any of the technical aspects of this yourselves.

Besides this, some of you may find yourself in a situation where you cannot be physically present for your jury presentations. This should not be a problem, we will do our best so that you can have your presentations via live video conference in the form of a conversation with the jury, and any image or video files documenting the work in progress that you want to present will be shown to the jury to help them understand what you are working on.
Contact us as soon as possible if you aren’t able to be present in person for your jury and need an online jury presentation.

Thank you all for your understanding and persistence; this health situation affects all of us personally, professionally and in your studies; we must continue to be flexible and understanding to deal with the instability of the situation and remain supportive of one another.

The health measures change every week and we cannot predict the weeks and months to come. We do our best to provide an optimal Work.Master experience.

All our very best, the Work.Master Team

French Version:

Master.

Votre dévouée WM TEAM

TUTORS !!!!!

Please!  Fill in the following form with your practical and theory tutors !!!!!

Graphic design projet with Mårten Spångberg

Spångberg BBC is searching for a person that can create the graphic design for the upcoming publication “Our Encyclopedia”, which will be printed in a smaller number of copies with a four colour cover.
It is the design of an encyclopedia like book, in smaller format (110 x 179 mm), which means simple rather than creative, somewhat formal rather than circus photoshop, however this doesn’t mean the editorial group is skeptical to experimental concepts.
The design for cover and back-cover – naturally also implies a possible proposal for fonts etc. through out the book, to be discussed with the editorial group.

Deadlines 17 December.
Payment, 10 free copies of the publication, proper crediting and free lunch.
Get in touch with Mårten Spångberg as soon as possible  marten.spangberg@hesge.ch

Upcoming Week`s Planning (☞ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)☞

BBC #3 Morag Keil

The practical side of this BBC will mainly be the making of the documentary, watching films and other documentaries together, and designing and producing posters and trailers for our documentary.

The aim is to learn together through discussions around modes of making and thoughts on education. The making of the documentary gives a direction for these discussions to take place.

Monday 30th November 11:00 – 15:00

  • Short welcome in the BBC chatroom https://discord.gg/kAa4qwE.
Please download and install discord on your computer or phone https://discord.com/ if you have trouble accessing it please email keilmorag@gmail.com. Intro on the documentary we have been working on so far with current Labzone students to all other Work.Master students participating in the BBC. Feedbacks and questions from all students on work done so far. Discussion about plans for the week. Look at the questions put together for interviews and check out the mood board on the Live in Your Heart hotglue website. Using the discord splitting into smaller groups to discuss the questions drafted for interviews. Speak about the issues that came up in the smaller groups alone with general issues around current art education/education in general.
  • Pick a documentary to end the session on https://labzone.hotglue.me/?documentaries/

Tuesday 1st December 11:00 – 15:00

  • Discuss the structure or documentaries and how to use the computer as a group. Write a collective proposed structure for the documentary. Break into groups to take on different parts of the structure/filming/audio/ titles/music/interviews/questions/.
  • Think about how people can access the computer, try out the software.

Wednesday 2nd December 11:00 – 15:00

  • Invite other students to join for this session and interview people about arts education using the questions we’ve written. Mind maps around imagined forms of education – what could be possible?
  • Plan for tomorrow’s cytube group watch. If there is time watch another documentary at the end, with a side chat.

Thursday 3rd December 11:00 – 15:00

  • Make posters/trailers for the future of education/documentary. Share posters in chat, speak about them, and any final thoughts.
  • cytube group watch of the videos everyone has selected with live chat

STUDENT MEETING

Friday, December 4  at 1PM

Online for all Work.Master students
https://join.skype.com/pG7FTBJvgmUa

A few weeks ago some students gathered to continue the process of discussion and student implication within the work.master we started this year. During the meeting we suggested we could work in smaller groups on different subjects and then make some proposition to discuss all together.

We were supposed to have a other meeting last week wherein all the small groups come together, which has been postponed to December 4th, early afternoon (probably online ?).

Here is the doc were we can add our names and organize with other people to start working together (maybe we can also add our contact).
